An Aggressively Silent Night

a poem by Shekher Mudgal

On the streets and roadside trees
Tourists clicked photos ‘cheese’
The fluorescent lamps glowed
The air surprisingly blew

Dozens of cheering on the road
Disturbed sat in the pond – the toad
What was all this cheering about?
Don’t you know it’s the night you scout?

But this wasn’t normal – not at all
I saw outside a tree had had a fall
There was a gentleman up there
Whom the others were convinced to fear

He had lifted the tree up his arm
Like befallen on him was a magical charm
Oh my god!, see him lifting the tree
One would let a trillion dollars free!

Yes, I would fight him disturbing our sleep
I got outside and had a peep
He caught me in the corner and chased me like hell
I almost hung onto a bell

He came near me and told me that his muscles were fake
I asked him to tell me how he had lifted the tree for god’s sake
He told me it was raised by a crane
Then, there was a climax noise of the train

I leapt down from the rock from which I was holding the bell
I liked to express my anger, I rather tell!
The bell fell down unbalanced there
And the crowds stopped the cheer

There was a moving sound – it was the rock
I gave the man a huge knock!
