The Comic Class

a poem by Asha Sunil

The half drowsy class- the teacher lulling on
The lazy chorus vanished- a shrill cry was born
The panic echoed in every voice awaking the sleeping few
That sudden burst of life- the teacher’s attention it drew
Gone was the boring lesson- the scene now so comic
With my whole class shrieking with feigned terror,
The teacher running around with our fat textbook
Trying in vain, hoping to set right the error:
Laughter filled the dull classroom- feeling refreshed
We returned to work with great fervor
Except for the poor dead bee that amused us all
But pathetically lost its way forever!
