Le combat d’examen

a poem by Asha Sunil

A bell echoes in the electric silence
The sheaves of paper are passed around
The (wea)pens are poised for great action
The hurdles pose inviting to be crossed
Some battle with all their heart and soul
Somewhere in between, some lose hope
Some tackle with ease the problems before
Some struggle hard but never reach the shore
It is there where great scientists are born
Where new laws are invented that may never be proved
It is there where philosophers seek
Sources of inspiration, longing to be moved
There are a few very close to tears
A few away in dreams to escape their fears
Few great writers create their masterpiece
All ignored in name of ‘absurdity’
Some slimy rats in the corner
Try their best to cheat somehow
But most get caught and reprimanded too
Beads of sweat gather in each brow
A bell sounds again to say it’s done
Undiluted relief spreads around
Most celebrate-despite efforts vain
But the first-row geeks start preparing again!
