I Wonder

a poem by Satheesan Rangorath

Night seeped in along with a sudden rain
Drenched lamppost stands aloof deserted
Silvery strings of shower fall down in a hiss
Night fades under the limelight of lampshade

Everyone passes under a beam of light
Only to disappear, into grey shades ahead
Merging with darkness, into oblivion
Life circles round the galaxy and reaches back

Scenario never changes but actors do
Streets get deserted or lively at the spark of time
Many passes underneath the street light
Becomes visible from vagueness, to invisibility again

Sun, moon, or rain, the lamppost stands alone
Unperturbed, unconcerned by stimuli, witnessing
Every form of life, every event that passes through
Goes on creating fossils in memory lane
