Cricket

a poem by Mohamed Shuaib

Cricket is my favorite game.
I enjoy watching every single ball.
I watch keenly every action.
I love watching players fall on
The ground saving even a single run,
Dirtying their clothes, injuring
Their own self for the sake of one’s country.

I love to watch Sachin striking the ball
To the boundary end, snatching
Even a single run, adding to the total
A handsome numbers to defend the opponents.
I love to see the running between the wickets
As quick as breeze and safe at home.
I love their style flying the bat in the air
After they make their ton.

I support my home side and
I like them winning nice,
But I appreciate the opponents too, Coz
I hate politics in the game.

I love the style of Wasim Akram
Who bowls firmly in to the batsman.
Really a batsman get scared, and
The way he puts an end to a team
Though in a commanding position.

I like Rodes the South African,
Who throws his body to his left and right,
To his front and back, saving even the
Toughest ball which moves from his side.

I too play cricket and enjoy it
I too like to become a player among
These legends and bat like Sachin,
Ball like Akram, and
Field like Rodes
And become a perfect all rounder.

Do you believe…
I even sometimes play
Cricket in my dreams.
I love the game cricket
From the bottom of my heart I mean.
