For the Good Times

a poem by Gautam Dhar

There are too many faces around
Like the stars up in the sky
How I long for some serenity
On this hot day in July

I’d give anything away
Just to look at her smile
To get lost in her eyes
And be with her all the while

There’s too many voices I hear
On the streets all around
But her voice that was once so dear
Lies like a wilted rose on the ground

I’d give anything away
Just to have her close to me
Just to have her by my side
Just a place for us to be

But there’s just nowhere to go
For this little heart in me
Like a tree with a barren bough
When the birds are all gone free

Still the emptiness that’s around
Just brings a tear to my eye
And I will never find a way
To bid my lost love goodbye.
