A Butterfly

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

Crawling caterpillar greedily
Gnawing, green leaves,
Spinning a silken crib,
Curling cosy within
Going to bed a glutton,
Changing clothes –
Beast becoming a beauty,
Struggling out silently,
Drying crumpled wings,
Flying free colourfully,
Chasing companions,
Fluttering midst the flowers,
Sipping cocktails offered,
Tying nuptial knots,
Bothering none – a butterfly,
Whom the blossomed all beckoned.
