King Fisher

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

A hungry king fisher
Donned a white bib,
Over a pool, perched –
On a wire, waited
Stone still.
Staring silently saying grace;
A flip of fin,
A break of a bubble,
A flutter, a dive,
A splash – wings wet,
His scoop a success,
Slithering food snapped tight,
Breakfast in his bill,
Flew to feast.
