The Comical Monkey

a poem by Nandita Pai

I had been to a zoo one day,
In one of a cages a monkey lay.
The monkey was a really small one,
Watching it proved to be great fun.
At first he stood on his hands,
And lifted his head up.
Then he lay down suddenly,
And got up with a jump.
The small cute monkey,
Whom I named ‘Little Joe’
Was amusing everybody,
And putting up a good show.
Joe by his comical acts,
Had won many hearts.
People fed him food stuffs,
Like bananas and jam tarts.
He had his own way,
To thank someone.
Around his huge cage,
He would run, run and run
Hanging from a tree by his tail,
Was the last act he did.
After which to Little Joe,
Goodbye we had to bid.
