The Victim

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

When chameleons change colour
And sunglasses soothe the sight
And colour the vision
Indicted innocent victim br>
Knocks doors for justice
Slander slammed across
Stony silence of truth
Simply stares.
Truth tells no tales
Lies lined up
Rip truth.
Spineless supporters
Refuse to risk rescuing
Caged parrot
Prattling pathetically.
The mangoose too had stains
Guillotined as guilty
Slain before he spoke.
A bullock beaten to bear
Burden beyond its might
Buckles – back broken.
Mighty but mute
Elements expose none
Faith fragmented
Peace to be picked in pieces
Blisters burning within
Battered and bitter
Travelling with time
Withered victim waits
Time the truth will tell
Divine delivers justice
Only on judgement day.
