The Blow

a poem by Purushothama Rao R

Comedian and actor Richard Pryor dies at 65
Former Senator Eugene McCarthy dies at 89
More than 100 killed in Nigeria plane crash

Whenever I view
Webpages of news items
Death alone greets eyes
Whether man made or machine made

At some odd hours
Only hair breadth’s space
Remain between life and death
Winner – if death tops the list
On the news flashed and made updated

You may term ultimately keeping mind in words duel
And may affirm the incident as cruel
But it is the news house’s fuel
And draws our sympathies in terms real

Let the fortune make it so
All men are UNDOUBTEDLY mortal and flow
To the other ends and award OUR SOULS a blow
Let in all senses humanity alone must glow.
