Discovery

a poem by Sheela K . Sharath

My meditating mind
transcends time
and questions of self
seek relevance
who am I?
what am I?
what’s to become of me?

My questing mind
draws a blank.
My wisdom declines.
Answers to my questions
deemed irrelevant,
get on with living.

I wake, I sleep, I eat
and the circle goes on.
But it’s not me,
my earthly body
goes through
these totally irrelevant
motions,
day after day,
while my turbulent mind
draws a blank.

Suddenly
through the stillness,
the calm before the storm,
I make a discovery of some
relevance.

I am what I am today
tomorrow will depend
on what I do today
and all my tomorrows
will depend on my
actions of
yesterday and
yesteryears!
