Thoughts

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

Thoughts like waves
Wanting to walk up the shore
Waking up shadows
Sending them sneaking
Up alluring alleys
To meet mirages
Currents carrying the cultured
Into a cyclone’s cradle
Tradition left uprooted
Pendulum swinging swift
Stops not to be sane
Mental missiles
Ever missing the mirage
When the dreary dust settles
A scripture’s sting
Stirs the senses
Shadows seek self-immolation
At the inferno ignited
The fire feeds soon
On futile fruits sought
On fetters of freedom
In its warmth silence suckles
At the whirlpool that wrapped
The world.
