A message to none

a poem by Abraham Oommen

Ages ago, Moses saw
A bush glare but not burning
He was amazed and
He heard the voice of God
Recently, the masses saw
A bush and a tiny glare
Burning the land, where
The Euphrates and Tigris flow
Ages past, Jacob dreamt
Of a ladder bridging
Heaven and earth, on it angels
Ascending and descending
Present time witnessed
A big ladder, astray in hide-out
Shuttling up and down
The narrow, hidden mountain tracks
Here is a world where
Virtue is contempt and
Contempt is virtue
Beauty is ugliness and
Ugliness is beauty
Mice dance with pop song
When the cats are away!
Dearth of thoughts and notions
Evident at every corner
Murder and blood shed
A pastime and pleasure
Donkeys dare to rule and
Lead the sleeping lions.
Blind with thirst and hunger
For power and wealth
Culture and heritage lie
Flat in dust bins from where
Rotten waste, stinking
Decks altars of worship
Truth and justice flee in
Shame and irreverence to them
God stands ashamed at
What he thought,
The crown of His creation
