Diamonds

a poem by Rajah Iyer S

Men may come; Men may go
Craze for Diamonds will ever Flow!
As we value Ones’ Life and What its worth
Looking at the Diamonds in Ones’ Wealth!

Funny this World is
Men who valued Values as Diamonds
Perished in style as a Penniless Peasant
Be it Bharathi or the Great Mahatma!

Is it Valuable Diamond one on the Crown?
Or ones’ Golden Heart as we see in Mother Theresa?
Can you value the Diamonds dug up till date
More than your Mother I do not know?

World is full of Madness and Money
Leading to Stress and Greed wherever you see
As Billions seek the few Diamonds in Store!
Forgetting the invaluable one in you is more to explore!

Children must be taught at the beginning
That Diamonds are Not For Ever!
Ethics and Morality are worth its weight in Gold
Than most other things in this Materialistic world!

Let them know that it is nothing but Carbon
And vanishes the way it came, whereas,
Values of Mahatma or a Luther King,
In 3001, will glitter and shine No Doubting!

The more Men run after the carbon that shines,
More will they get dejected in Greedy Shrines!
More the people who love, even Peace, will Fight
As ultimate Greed blinds them both of What’s Right!

Temporary World of Ours, let the Children know,
We are not here to accumulate Wealth and wealth
As Learning to live with my Poor Neighbour I adore
Is worth a million Diamonds More!

Let them love their Bare Footed Brethren too
Show them Love is what Diamonds of Life!
Can’t be burnt in a Fire, Nor can it be wetted,
Nor can be Blown over, Nor can be destroyed by a Sword!

Love is the Foundation of a Healthy Universe
This Diamond is there for ever, none can erase!
For all can take as much to enjoy as they wish
Keep it in their Hearts and the Shine will never perish!
