Puja

a poem by Subhajit Sarkar

Overcrowded shops speaking loud and clear,
A festive occasion was drawing near.
Year long savings to be spent,
All kept safely for this long awaited event.
Tiresome days and loads of worries,
Appeared like lost memories.

Everyone set with a welcoming mood,
‘Durga Puja’, the occasion we now understood.

Chanda collections and heavy preparations,
Puja committee, are working hard to find our solutions.
‘Office duty’ kept aside,
People busying themselves in the organizing side.
Lots of speculations gave way,
Thank God, forecast kept rains miles away.

On reaching the Pandal Locality,
Crowded visitors, made life unhappy.
Lack of space for parking vehicle,
Walking amidst heavy rush, made life miserable.
Pushing and pulling all around,
It was difficult to stand our ground.
Irritated, we felt like going back,
But, could only wish we could do even that.

Finally on reaching the site,
Our efforts seemed fruitful, at the Pandal’s delight.
Exquisite work of jute and wood,
Decorated lanterns, giving the ceiling a gorgeous look.
All in harmony, created a heavenly scene around.

Deity seemed so real and hearty,
Trying to satisfy all her devote.
Shades of lighting all around,
Depicting the current events world round.
Falling of Twin Towers, so aptly demonstrated,
As if the event occurring a step ahead.
Such impeccable work of imagination and accuracy,
It calls for real talent not piracy.

Heart filled with happiness and eyes dazed,
Hats off to all those who created.

Suddenly we realised, we must be home,
Again the struggle, we have to overcome.
Finally when we were returned back,
Only the decors filled our mind, keeping the problems apart.
Minds were filled with new desire,
We will strive hard to achieve what we aspire.
