On this Holy Day of Vijayadashmi…

a poem by Sudarshan Madhav Karhale

May the black sun set
of evil and darkness;
let the white light beam
with good and happiness.

May the mighty kingdom fall
of monopoly and misery;
let the golden pillars rise
of brotherhood and glory.

May the modern books burn
of falsehood and treachery;
let the ancient scripts speak
of truthfulness and bravery.

May the rusty chains break
of enslavement and poverty;
let the shiny medallions resemble
of leadership and liberty.

May the doped mind infiltrate
of malpractice and myth;
let the pure heart beat
of welfare and fact,
wisdom along with.
