Broken Bonds

a poem by Swati (Jamshedpur)

Once someone was precious to me,
today someone is still more.
Once our lives were entwined,
today they lie wrecked by sunder.
But there is so much left unsaid
and so much yet to unfold…

Myriad memories etched on the sands of time
of things silly and sublime.
Words untouched by the world to find
in the unfathomable depths of my mind.

But when I ask myself
why you fail to make me irate
And why is it that
you will never make me feel hate
And why this parting of ours
my heart will always repudiate
And why do you think this is the road’s end
when it was just a difficult bend
a chirping bird says to me
“Don’t forget good ol’ things
precious they are to you
and the kind words though few
gave you a life entirely new”

Now I know good things
don’t last forever;
But I also know
I will not forget you
not today… not ever.
