A Tale of Two friends

a poem by Sathya N K

Once upon a time, were two friends, a “Horse” and a “Donkey.”
They lived as example of how friendships ought to be!
Many wondered, together how do these two jell?
With so much of disparity, yet all goes well!

It was a bond, crammed with love and affection,
Tangled with understanding, faith and adoration!
To stroll, graze or glug water, one wouldn’t go without the other.
Sharing pleasure and pain they held their friendship so dear.

An inane error made by donkey, brought this relationship to a screeching halt,
All the hundreds of sorry, went un-heard by the seething colt.
Things changed there on, and horse behaved as if, she had never knew.
As all her act of neglect towards the donkey, started to brew.

All good deeds done by the Donkey went in vain,
Odium danced wide making his heart pain
Days disappeared, seasons changed,
But for the colt which in stubborn remained.

New friends stepped into the life of the horse,
She rallied around them enjoying the new found mass!
Little had it realized, it had hurt a soul,
Which always cared and thought of its well being as a whole,

The donkey continued to live in days of past,
Holding memories steadfast of the friendship lost.
Praying one day she will return, in spite being under thwart,
But only the angels came, to tightened the knots, round its heart!

Mist roofed donkey’s eyes, remembering what a man often quote’s
When someone fooled is referred to an “ASS” in many a ways.

With wet eyes and sunken heart the donkey breathed its last tall.
Saying to itself – Its better to have gained and lost a friend than to have none at all!!!
