The Lesbian

a poem by Elaine E. Howie

I am just me
A lesbian I be
So if we should meet
Don’t judge are disturb me
For knowing and dealing with my sexuality
For I am a professionally
Conscious and liberally free
Mentally stable and with life before me
Lesbian you see.

I am not unreachable
I do not try to be teachable
In my sexuality towards others
I do not look at every girl I meet
As potentially acceptable to me
So don’t hide your face and whisper
Don’t say nasty things in jester
Are amuse yourself at my expense
For I live my life for thee
I am just a human lesbian

And lastly but not least I can be a friend
I can love and live with dignity until god calls me in
The End
