The fading kaleidoscope

a poem by Samrajni Ganguly

Oh! this silly me
I was so happy about everything
Laughing through life as it came to me.
Embellishing each day of my life with smiles.
So merry I was.
Blowing away the bubbles of sorrow with a kiss.
But, I had the faintest idea
That someone else was looking back too
But, that gesture had a tinge of jeer in it for me.
It was my destiny.
“Yes laugh child, laugh as much as you want:-
‘coz the days in store have loads of tears,
Waiting for your gay eyes.”
This was the murmur I could hear
Whenever I looked at my future.

Oh! this silly me
I am still so happy about everything
Laughing through sorrows as they embrace me.
Burnishing each pain of my life with smiles.
Spreeing through misery.
Playing through adversity.
Such a fool I was.
Probably I was going insane…

No failure gave me sorrow anymore.
No despair got me frustrated.
Nor did gaping wounds bring tears to my eyes.
I could not feel pain anymore.
Yes I did cry once.
The day I was happy.
Happy because I realised I had lost my sanity.
