Looking into Myself

a poem by Sameer Shisodia

It occurred to me
(recently)
who am I?

Am I the helpless Elephant
Whom five blind men show five reflections?
And it has but these mirrors…

Or am I something in between?
Which no mirror can see but a side of-
a friend to one,
to one a foe
To most – unknown.
To me?

A sum of parts ?
Or a whole – which
In the lights of different colours
becomes different things to different eyes?
I think, I feel, I analyse.
I’m understanding, caring, and wise.
Yet I wear faces I do not know
and cannot look beyond the guise.

What am I?
