When the Winner Loses

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Here is a blanket and a parcel of food
I’m so very sorry
for the damage my bombs have caused
and I grief for the loss of your children
who sleep forever under building debris.
How kind the beast is
before it enslaves
and steals your wealth.

Globalisation, is implement
the strong uses
to exploit our world
it creates hate, poverty and fear.
This powerful force that tramples on other cultures
and tries to ram down our throats
the junk philosophy of the victorious,
calling it freedom of choice.

The beast’s war cry is democracy,
its right to exploit the lesser
leaving the defeated with a cyst of hate
that will grow, explode and poison our planet
for a thousand years
and the dying beast will ask:
Why did you hate me so much?
