New Year Greetings, 2005

a poem by Seetharam P

May the New Year Two Thousand five
Health and wealth to all of you give,
May it fulfill all your desires
And banish all your woes and cares.

Here friends, may I few words spill,
And I hope you wouldn’t take it ill,
Which, please try to practise, I plead
So you may a better life lead.

In your spending, please be prudent,
So you may not have to relent
In later years of your mistake
When your maint’nance might be at stake.

Be good and kind to one and all,
So that if you happen to fall,
The others may treat you kindly
Extend a helping hand gladly.

Avoid gambling of any sort,
As it’d lead to a broken heart;
And gambling is a stubborn vice
Which’s hard to get rid of, like lice.

Be honest and true to yourself
When in pursuit of pow’r and pelf;
For riches amassed by foul deeds
Are no better than pois’nous weeds.

May your life from setbacks be free
And ever full of spree and glee
With nothing to haunt or daunt you
But let success and joy accrue.

May ill-health never assail you
Nor gloom ever come across your view;
Let your future be bright and lively
And may you grow all the more lovely!

May each passing day in future,
Make you wiser and more mature
And much better equipped all-round
For you tread on safer ground.

May you always enjoy good health
Free from illness creeping in stealth;
And may you have at your command,
Enough money to spend and lend!

May there n’ver be darkness and gloom
But, instead, let all the days bloom
With happiness, prosperity,
Everlasting joy and gaiety.

May you have many helpful friends
To steer you through life’s many trends
N’ver letting you down in distress
Aiding you more than your mistress!

May you too like a magic wand
Extend to them a helping hand
If with misfortune they are sunk
And pull them safely to the bunk.

Despite best wishes, there might be,
And of which, life cannot be free;
Some mishaps, ailments or sadness
Which you must tackle with boldness.

Life cannot always be that sweet
So let us be ready to greet
The good and the bad, all alike
Without despairing or dislike.

So cheer up and never lose hope
If with troubles, you cannot cope;
Fight and I wish you victory-
A victor’ous New Year to thee!

Having said enough, I now end
May God be with you to defend
And lend you support to dispel
And shatter all troubles pell-mell!
