Lamentation

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Memories are vultures flapping
Their wings crowding my mind.
A polluted river, slimy banks,
Residue of filth from a useless
Life, flowing towards the void
Where no mirrors tell a story,
A white sheet where no mighty
Pen can ever scratch a thought,
Or the name of a loved one.
Childless man your soul is an
Notion, a low charged battery
An autumnal leaf rustling in
A street deserted by mankind.
Memories leave me and let me
Be the birth of a dream, a river
Of life forever flowing into an
Ocean of love; let my unborn
Child hum me a lullaby to
The jingling harmony of green
Leafs in a forest young.
