Before we could cover an honest mile

a poem by Rathi Pradhan

You betrayed and lied all the while,
Even before we could cover an honest mile.
You made my poised heart feel such a rift,
When you gave solitude as a precious gift.

Your frivolous attitude doesn’t seem fine,
So, I go back to the world of mine.
The memories of pain, tears, and lies
Will make me sane and a lot more wise.

Before I bid you my final stern adieu,
Here is what my heart would like to say to you-
Gaiety, happiness, joy… you have it all,
In the road of acme, hope you do not fall.

You took away my sweet and happy smile,
And just added to my sorrows pile.
Yes, you betrayed and lied all the while,
Even before we could cover an honest mile.
