Varsha

a poem by Gummadapu Narasimha Rao

Varsha third season that inclement weather
June-July palliate summer for rains further,
Jesta-Aashada months play monsoon game,
Start agro toil sane,
Sprout serene hopes in peasant community
Torrential rains at night of autumn activity,
Relief! from broiling summer grants glean
Grey nature turns green,
Rivulets flow and tanks leads of soil tilling
Rainbow opposite to Sun scene of alluring.

Arid to emerald by sprouting saplings wild
Plough furrow looks fine in the tilled field,
Paddy nurseries look as sea waves majestic
Drizzling act fantastic,
Cash crops rise in arid fields yield the gold
Active humming cultivation in the wetland,
Smiths and carpenters busy with craft tools
Gossip there all walks,
Rhythms mellow produce from valley slope
Village lullabies, pat infants into anon sleep.

At advent of Varsha worms and flies let out
Frog croak in ponds calls rains benign most,
Butterfly flutter incites variegated elegance
Dragonflies flit glance,
Rainbows off side Sun real rain harbingers
Mid night thunders, showers shiver augers,
Crave to behold Morning Star even it rains
Faith on Nature gains,
Schools works well, but mud children bang
Aashada separates new couple brings pang.
