Benefit of Doubt

a poem by Jayati

After the september eleventh,
Someone naive posted,
To the American President Bush:

As a gesture of Solidarity to the US
Through an urgent express
I, desirous to reach,
The high and mighty
request.
“Your Kind Attention Please”
It is not war of muscles
but battle of wits
between, trade, commerce,
consumerism, courage;
Hunting, obsolete,
it’s chess;
The sly manage to escape
their mess;
Diverting world attention
gaining time,
Further,
Monster-design;
Annihilate the simple
with destructive guile;
Striking, vicious magnitude offense;
Decline, the path of peace,
Remind Jesus on cross,
The Naked Fakir
A great loss;
Ego provoke
Point of no return;
Secure, world citizens?
Trust
Pulver anthrax!
Implanting chips
to monitor crimes?
Erasing panic off the mass?
Modern Times:
And non violence
are but
Poles apart;
Primitive sport,
War,
Past times, èlite?
Sorry tense,
Grammar,unease!
Dwindling
hopes for Mankind;
Equinox
Balance nature;
Push scales, tilt for Peace;
Mighty miles,
away
from Cowardice!
Gab rhetorics,
gags,
Media-Moguls, moneymakers!
Inflict pain,
on ghost who walks?
Let, culprits
Kill, innocents!
Solutions?
Wilfred Owens,
Spring offensive?
Is yet to come,
it is only autumn.
Running eyes,
through list of names
Add
numbers to more lost lives;
Young soldiers, new papas, son-in-laws
Army, pilots, battalion,
men, women,
NGO’s.
Deny?
The face of war
Behind, curtains,
open doors,
Extended to the battlefields,
seas, shores, skies, cities.
Devastating misery,
sufferings sorrows;
Maimed bodies, twisted limbs,
anxious eyes, shattered spirits,
Broken hearts,
damaged souls,
Strolling sounds
of the living ghosts.
Mean manipulatives
Veto, Presidential plans,
To embrace
Non Violence;
No, ethnic cleansing;
Cost, Presidential name!
The loving heart proclaim,
With priority gesture of the courageous,
I am a loving man!
And the
world knows,
except the gang
with the gong of violence!
Agile moves behind skin tight masks,
impossible to recognize.
Ultimately
The truth prevails…
Mirroring,
the New Yorkers on streets,
March for Peace inspite, assaults;
Voice “Not at the cost of our names”
Echoing, unison,
Hand in hand, I am a loving man!
Confirming,
In Truce he isn’t Alone
World and New Yorkers Tone
Overpower evil,
Who can?
The loving man!
