When words were wanting

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

“Do you think I’m too fat?” the stone-age woman asked her man.
“Fat! I’ve never heard that word before, what does it mean?”
“Is my bum too big and my thighs too thunderous, that’s what it means.’

“Well, you are slightly bigger than the woman in
the next cave” her man innocently said.
‘I see, so you don’t find me attractive anymore”.
“No, its not that, but since you asked”
he muttered while rubbing two stones together wishing rain
would stop so he could go out hunting with his mates.

“From tomorrow I’ll go on a diet” she said and
invented another word!
Fat and Diet, two dreaded words that to these day
hunts households all over the world.
