Life

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

Calls not a year
Cakes and candles
To celebrate life
Everyday life speaks
In the large
In the little
The sojourn of the shinning star
The sun that sneaks
To break slumber’s spell
Hurrying seasons, chiming clock
Ebbing tide, wandering wave
Rushing river,surging sea
Wriggling worm, twisting tadpole
Crawling caterpillar, buzzing bee
Cooing cuckoo, flying falcon
Fluttering fledgling, diving dolphin
Blooming bud, towering tree
Weeds waving to the wind
Reeds relaxing by the river
Sprouts seeking to survive
The foetus wandering in the womb
Humming heart, bubbling babe
Jumping juvenile, dancing damsel
All alive speak, the same
Language of life
Flowers fade only
To become fruit
Death decays only
To bequeath to life
Each divine day dwelt
Deserves a conscious celebration.
