Sweet love she knows

a poem by Maryse Saldanha

She lay facing the window, curtains drawn
Soft breeze to them ripples brought
She was trying hard to sleep but then gave up
In the ripples her mind was lost

The crescent moon, beautiful in the starry night.
Him to her mind it brought
What was he doing? Where was he now?
Her companion, her friend, now lost.

She loved him dearly she wished he were near
Her head his shoulder sought
She longed to feel his strong arms around her
In them comfort she found

Tears filled her eyes as she looked for him
Asked she, “Are you watching from above?”
As if in reply the movement she felt
Within her his baby she holds

Amongst the tears a smile now grew
Its warmth she will not let go
Death took him away, his love remains
With the baby their love still grows

Love lives on even through death
Sweet memories play, her minds at rest
The stars shine brightly, the soft breeze blows
Sweet love she gives sweet love she knows
