Summer Madness

a poem by Anupama Pyarelal

Air burns, crackles.
Hopelessness chokes within,
Words condense.
Thoughts fenced in,
Feet drag on sluggish,
Through infernal heat.
The pitcher cracks.
Full bodied, fruity,
Love rankles now,
Seeps through parched ground,
Disappears.
Remorseless,
We part ways.
