Whatever happens, it does for a purpose

a poem by Mary Mathew

The world that we live is for one and all
Sometimes people enter in our lives
Strangers though they may be, yet we feel
We have known them for a lifetime.
They take various forms- of a lover, of a friend,
Of a colleague, of a neighbour, even of an enemy.
In an instant we realise that they were meant
To be here, to touch our hearts and make
A difference in our lives, to show us a
Meaning in our vagabond-like life.

Sometimes things happen in our lives
Which may seem tragic, embarrassing at first.
After some soul-searching we will realise
That they were to show us our true potential,
Dedication, commitment and strength of will.
If everything was like a smooth-paved road
Without the occasional humps and curves
There wouldn’t be any suspense or novelty in life.

For every darkness, there will be an illumination.
For every storm, there will be a rainbow.
For every tear, there will be smiles aplenty.
For every sagging spirit, there will be a cheery hug.

When we were born we were crying, and everyone
Around us were smiling, when we die let it be smiling
And others left crying and the guiding motto to this is
Whatever happens in our life, it does for a purpose.
