Waiting

a poem by Elaine E. Howie

Waiting for the return
The tears drop on my cheeks firm
I know what you have been trained to do
But just remember you carry my love with you

Whewwwww, I ran and jumped in arms
That would hold me for a long time
I caressed and clutched on so tight
And then you were gone

Your fight is for freedom
And yet I did not want you to leave me
I understand it all though
Your love will keep me safe
And your wits will keep you alive

I thank you as millions do
But the baby will see me through
And I will wait for you
I know you will come home again
When it all ends
