The Letter of Apology

a poem by Elaine E. Howie

Don’t start running off we need to talk, no say nothing just sit back and listen.
I don’t know where to begin you know I’m not very good at this, here goes.
You must be saying damn is this man ever going to get it right?
I don’t know I can’t be sure but I am going to give it my best shot.
I know I hurt someone who is the cap on my pop.
So I retreated to the main gate because I didn’t want to get tossed out the back.
Sit here baby; let me express myself I’m trying to give my love so we can get back on track.

You shadow felt lady with tears in your eyes,
I will give you a pot of gold with the rainbow inside
Just to see your lovely sexy smile.
I would drink up the sea,
And invite the mountains that have sustained us to dine with me.

If you would forgive me and return your love to my side,
I would trespass across the garden of heaven with you as my bride.
Because sorry is not a big enough word to recant.
I am on a mission for your love to re-plant.

In my shame I realize the full extent of my love,
As I sprinkle the seasoning of my love for you from above.
I would make the trees sing to you through the flowers,
And dance in the scent of your love for long, long hours.

My eyes raise a toast to your gorgeous body baby,
Smothered in the perfume and nesting in your warmth my lovely lady.
My hands reveal the chase by the strength of your urgent need,
Let me love you shadow lady please, please, please.

I want to cling to the brightness of you as my mate,
And roll in the music of your love on my plate.
Serious things I know we must confront soon,
So lets do it on the stars right above the moon.

We could talk in whispers as threatened by ecstasy we release,
In total harmony as only my love and yours could ever be.
I am asking for forgiveness in all of these things,
But most of all I want you back with me as my lover and friend.
From the one who is sorry please forgive me
The end.
