The Comedian

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

I’m a hero, if only to my own delight,
What’s the point of being a hero for?
Anyone else. I’ve painted my house
Inside and every stick of furniture too.
And live, now, inside the colour of
The eternal rainbow over Venus.

Yes I’m a hero onto myself. And friends
Faces turn green before they dizzy run
Out and spew! I’ll give a kingdom
To be able to shed a child’s honest tear
To release the sorrow that is tearing
Me apart.
