Prisoner

a poem by Natasha Girglani

Sometimes I feel stranded
lost in the sea of shadows
the only thing that wakes me up
is the sound of angels knocking on my door
calling me – to talk about the darkness I live in,
talk about the game that just isn’t fun anymore
lost in my world, I was brought to my senses
the heart of my dreams is now broken.
what gives me the power
to live through this misery
and walk through the sound of the rain
strikes me like lightning
in this perpetual storm
fills me with nothing but pain.

I rise from the darkness
reach out for the light
true success is but limited to few
the faint music was heard
but the melody died out
the words still linger in my mind
for I wish I could retrieve
the treasure that was sunken
long before the sea of tears arose,
it drifted away, the pain amplified,
the captain surrendered to the violent seas
the waves only mocked his predicted defeat
Checkmate – games over, lights out, you’ve lost,
a knife stained with blood
could be brought to a sheen
but your words couldn’t be erased from my mind
now you’re the culprit, you’ve killed my soul
but I’m the one locked up for life.
