Loosing You

a poem by Elaine E. Howie

While you reach for fame
I lose myself when I hear your name
I never needed to wait
I needed you fully dressed on my plate

I will not rake the grass
I will not bring you back to the past
I will put my head up
And I will shoulder this, which I must

I fought the loneliness that I felt
I pushed it away that heart you use to melt
I needed to drift away
To realize these things I should say

Remembering all the love we shattered
All the reasons why now it did not matter
Searching for a new meaning
For a simple answer to this gleaning

These blue/grey rays of the sun
Finds me thinking of our brightest fun
I once sought a dimmer view
But now I release the glimpse of you

I sit on the fence of memories
I motion from signs of lost centuries
I look at all the things you bought
As I sip on the silence of my thoughts

As life walks with me for a while
There will be no reversion to that lost child
I will huddle in your gone arms
I will believe you meant me no harm

I will walk away now feeling new
Seeking all things but wanting few
Wrapping my heart from the wind
Reaching out for a real friend
Sighing, to find you not there in
The End.
