A Cup of Life

a poem by Elaine E. Howie

I watched this cup filling up
And had questions like why and but
So I said a little prayer
To the guy who hears them up there

Oh please help me fill up this life of mine
Let me taste of life’s sweet wine
Let me hold to me so dear
My love one’s without this fear

He answered much to my surprise
You have already lived your life and died
You are now to come up here with me
And then that cup of life will be

A joyous wonder beyond belief
A wickless candle with your release
A time to reflect on all your friends
It will be the beginning of life’s true end
