Will you return?

a poem by Maryse Saldanha

The candle flickers in the corner
Its gentle flame around me spreads
The little flame in the dark brings brightness
Instilling hope in my heart that yearns

So many days so many months gone by
Yet I wait hoping he’ll return
Embrace me and fill me in his arms
My being joyous at his awaited return

His lips on my body sweet rain
In the barren lands like honeyed river flows
His tender touch how I long to feel
As he fills me and makes me whole

Why did you have to go my love
And leave me behind so lost and lone
Pining for you as the candle burns
Hoping for me, from death you’ll return
