Lonely

a poem by Maryse Saldanha

I sit beside the window
And the abundant beauty behold
The green of the trees, warm blowing breeze
Birds singing happily, the sun shines for me

As I look beyond, I strain my ear
Seeking a voice that calls me near
Seek I do, nothing I find
Lost in the wilderness, ’tis heart of mine

The sweet sound of love, drifts past my ear
The sweet smell of love, draws me near
Frantic I run, seeking this love
Only to realize, there was none

The leaves change their colour, the sun’s gone away
Loneliness and emptiness faithfully stay
A cry breaks the silence, too painful to hear
A shattered heart weeps there’s no one here
