I cried last night

a poem by Maryse Saldanha

I cried last night as I went to bed
I cried last night for all that’s been and said
I cried last night, wasted tears
For one who’s gone afar forever

Rays on the horizon brighten the day
Am I a part of the night or day
The tears flow freely emotions outpour
The story is over a new day I behold

I look behind on all that has been
Both moments of pain and joy I see
Moments that were, moments now gone
Memories fade, their impressions dawn

Why run behind the running stream
I stand by instead and behold its beauty
Sadness threatens its shadow unfolds
But the bright sun gathers me in its hold

What do I feel? Sorrow? Joy?
Beautiful moments? All embroiled.
Days go by, seasons change
O dark clouds above, see how you wane

Love so beautiful love so true
Love I give no more to you
I cried last night for all that’s left unsaid
I cried last night as I went to bed
