Drops of Beauty

a poem by Maryse Saldanha

Drops of beauty
Drops of pain
Different they feel
Different their ways
I lay on my bed
As they roll down my face
They fall to my bosom
Like drops of rain

I try to stop them
But they have a mind of their own
They won’t listen to me
They flow on I see them grow
Do you see beauty in them?
I know not and ask now
Can you give me the answer I seek
I plead humbly now

The night gathers on
I try to sleep
It seems so far away
In desperation I weep
There are no answers here
No matter how hard I weep
Whatever lay in store for me
I humbly keep
