By the Fireplace

a poem by Vikash

Enshrouded by the warmth
And caring that exudes
From your presence,
I bathe in the lavish
Expenditure of emotional gratification
That envelops me.

You adorn my life
With the fervent
Ascension of your Love.
The opulent crescendo of hope
And sanctifying embrace
Satiates my need for your love.

The amber of the flames
Highlights your simplistic
Features and enhances the glow
In your eyes…
The eyes of loving and caring.
A magnificent sight to behold.

Your beauty,
Reservoired in your eyes,
Radiates the splendiferous
Adhesion of affection
That you attentatively bestow
Upon me.

I close my eyes
As our lips meet.
This expansion and unification
Of us, for us, by us
And I am fed with an immensely
Replenishing aroma of fulfilment.

I want to express my love
For you,
But the words pale in comparison
To this moment.
Instead, hold you closer
And I allow the tears to escape.

I am tasked with
A labourious effort to hold back the tears
As I softly mutter
These three words
And hope that my betraying voice
Doesn’t cause you grief.

You look at me
And smile, knowingly,
Encouragingly.
And I surrendered all doubts
About us,
About the future.

By the fireplace,
I grasped the meaning
Of love,
I asked you to marry me,
And with without hesitation,
You said “No”.
