Our Simple Lives

a poem by Mahendra

Look at Mr.K,
He’s trying to repay,
This loan he took for a car last year,
That’s led to anger and many a tear.

And that’s Mrs.Singh,
And those are her diamonds and rings,
Which make her prettier than Mrs.Shani,
Because she doesn’t have any.

That there is little Mikey,
Whose loves are Armani and Nike,
Discotheques, babes and cocaine,
Is what he says keeps him sane.

Just look harder and see,
Money means more to me,
Its all a great big money fest,
Earning it, my life’s only quest.

And that’s what we really are,
A house, a bank balance and a car.
