Wandering Away In Pride

a poem by Mabel Annie Chacko

Like a musk deer we wander,
In the forest of our life,
Searching for the hidden jewels
Of conscience, rest, happiness, and bliss;
Unknown to the fact that
Our conscience is our crown,
Contended thoughts our rest;
Our heart is happy in itself, and
Our bliss is in our breast.
Yes, we are unknown to these facts
Due to our pride.

O God of Earth and Altar,
Look down and hear our cry…
Take not thy mercy from us,
But take away our pride.
