Oh my poet

a poem by Mary Mathew

Oh my poet, your words were like
The sword that cut me through.
Oh why did you choose such words?
After all, all I did was admiring you.

If they were the words of a father,
Then chide me as if I am your child.
If they were the words of a teacher,
Then give me the knowledge I seek.
If they were the words of a priest,
Then show me the way to the truth.
If they were the words of a judge,
Then pronounce your verdict for this sinner.

Oh my poet, set this devotee free.
Words once written cannot be taken back.
Give me the peace I need.
After all, all I did was admiring you.
