Hurting: courtesy, a friend

a poem by Promila Chitkara

It hurts when you turn to a friend
for few warming moments
and he slams the door on your face.

It hurts when you want to share
your silence and he shouts in your ear
‘go away’.

It hurts when you can’t control
your emotions and spend hours in pain,
and you go to the friend
for him to understand
he perturbs you more
to make your life hell.

It hurts when you realise
that the friend is no more a friend;
somebody who means a lot to you
does not give a damn.

Oh!
This life is difficult!
Too long to live completely!
