Volte-Face

a poem by Mohan Chandran P

You caused me such a heart burn,
For love, no more, do I yearn.
An unforgettable lesson in life, I did learn,
As my life took a decisive turn.
I was mild, but you were stern,
I was submissive, but you refused to govern.
In your love, everything I lost,
The future, present and even the past.
You’ve pulled the ground off my feet,
From the riches of heart, you brought me to the rags of street.
While still in cradle, you showed me the grave,
I gave you umpteen opportunities, but my love, you couldn’t save.
For your love, I cry in eternity,
But you staged a volte-face, without an iota of pity.
