My Lovely Butterfly

a poem by Indu V R

A lovely butterfly
Was stamped on the road
‘Oh, the poor creature is dead?’
My mother bowed down and touched
It fluttered and flew!
And sat on my dress-
On a flower design!
I was surprised to see a butterfly
On me in my whole life!
My father took pity and gracefully picked it
And left it on a plant!
That butterfly-
Black in colour with golden dots
I will not forget you
My colourful butterfly!
